Cambodian Artists' Visions of the Future

I have found this page on the web. It sounds interesting to me and I think it might be interesting to some of you too so I decided to post it here. It's an comtemporary art exhibition. Reyum hosted this exhibition in 2002, it is quite a long time ago but those artworks are really spectacular. The theme of the exhibition is "Vision of the Future". As far as I am concered most of artists showed their perspectives about future of Cambodia through their works. Enjoy!

wow, I like the pic on the top left. However, i think the pict on the top right has great meaning. It seems to me that the black (bad things) is being removed and the blue (good things) is expanding bigger and bigger. The ugly hand show the hard-working cambodian people are to make the nation's future reaching its bright destiny.

hum... that's jus my idea!

It's like we've reached the same conclusion again here hehe. I like that 3 art pieces the most. To me, the buttom one(green) it tells us that that we're going backward as the time passes and he(the artist) is so right about it.

be optimistic!

It can be viewed so, but to turn it into a possitive way. I would say he is still walking and walking eventhough there are evil footsteps clearly leading him to go backwards. He never looks backwards. He doesn care what's behind! ALL he has to do is to carry on until he reaches his destiny! :p

for the first colorful one, I see is as the world map, which has our country represented by a beautiful shell standing out. It is spreading the pearls to everywhere, which means that Cambodia is becoming prosperous and wellknown globally! :P

Heheh and finally we come to this agreement. did you read the title of each thing artwork or not? But it sounds to me that you didn't read at all.

Well, for that colorful one is a bit abstract but i don't think that things are pearls or anthing hehe. they're just drops of water on lotus leaf and other things surrond it are all elements in the nature i guess. Althought it's abstract and colorful, it doesn't tell me much about things related to the theme. Or maybe just the artist's idea is far too abstract than what i can get.

Oh i haven't checked the website yet... jus see in ur blog..

There is no one interpretation to a painting.

PP view it differently!

Yeah but some objects are shown in obvious ways so we can tell what they are hehe. In addition, before he started doing his work he would have a clear idea what he wanted to show and it's like to be put up in the title. So, if you view it as the way he wanted it to be then it would be GREAT!

y do i hav to? don u think that the more various views of a painting, the better it is????

if u jus agree with the idea of the painter only, i think the painting is not great at all. A painting that i view as great is the one that underlies different interpretations. :p

I didn't say we agree/have to agree but i said if we come to the same interpretation is what the artist's purpose. Painting is kinda visual communication so it's not just about aesthetic but it also conveys information/message, in which painters/designers wanna send out to viewers/audiences. But well since people come from different backgrounds they view that piece of art in different ways.

Eh Kaly, you sound so serious. What has got into you? You've never been like this before.
